Swedish Championship 2019
This year’s Swedish Championship was held again on Baggensfjärden in Stockholm, which served as a great tune up for next year’s SSL Lake Grand Slam hosted by SSL Training Center and Sune Carlsson Båtvarv.
We had a great fleet of 21 boats with the likes of Hubert Merkelbach/Markus Koy, Thomas Allart/Erik Veldhuizen among a few others coming in from other countries to participate in the open regatta. Once again Sune Carlsson sailing with Benny Nilsson was out there to challenge all of us each day and putting up quite the fight for most of us. It is so spectacular to be sharing the race course with a legend like him.
Over the three day event we had varying wind conditions and directions testing everyone’s mental toughness to decipher the always difficult Baggen.
The podium was closely fought over the entire weekend between local sailors Tom Löfstedt with Edoardo Natucci, and visitors Merkelbach/Koy, Allart/Veldhuizen. Eventually L=C3=B6fstedt/Natucci were able to grab hold of the overall lead after the second day. After the final the races on the last day in shifty conditions it was the local skipper who was able to take the overall regatta win.
However, this being the Swedish Championship, both members of the yacht needed to be living in Sweden to take the title of being Swedish Champion. That honor goes to the always fast combination of Calle Schröder sailing with Henrik Glimstedt.
As always the hosts put on a great event providing great food and a great atmosphere. A huge applause goes out to them and all of their efforts. Things are certainly going to be great next summer for the SSL Lake Grand Slam!
